DMS Supply Chain Insights and News July 24

Welcome in July with your DMS Supply Chain Inspiration

In Summary

What’s New

At times’ there is soo much noise around the GenAI topic that amongst all the voices it’s difficult to find a peaceful moment to think about the entirety of its potential and impact on the Supply Chain.

Recently I was reading an article that quoted an industry survey by Gartner reporting that half of Supply Chain leaders plan to implement GenAI in the next year, and 14% are already in the implementation stage.

Why is this?

Those ahead of the oncoming GenAI wave have already recognised the workforce challenges, unpredictable markets, data volume, silos and the complexity of Supply Chain analysis that underscore the urgent need for transformative solutions employing GenAI.

Generically generative AI solutions were not well-suited for Supply Chain analysis because they lacked the deep understanding of complex Supply Chain connections and data sources necessary for tailored insights that drive operational excellence and strategic foresight.

However, the SUPPLY CHAIN GAME has been flipped on its head with Logility’s latest evolution that now integrates GenAI into their Digital Supply Chain Platform. The latest generation bridges the gap between complex data and human understanding, allowing planners to concentrate on high-value activities whilst executives confidently make strategic decisions in seconds.

This is a distinctive competitive advantage for Supply Chain organisations, and personally, once you see it in action really needs to be seen in action.

Supply Chain Savvy: Handy Tips

In all things, manage by exception/identify the critical risks …

Identifying critical risks targets those risks that have the most potential to positively or negatively impact your Sales, Marketing, Supply Chain objectives.

Old School planners didn’t have the technology tools available today to identify the exceptions, however the objective was still a critical, integral part of any good Supply Chain planning process and was adopted by market leaders back in the day.

Nowadays this idea is even more critical with the speed that the market & Supply Chains work at.

The term “Blink and you’ll miss it” has never been more applicable than it is today.

The difference is mature Organisations recognise that adopting the appropriate best-of-breed technology tools within critical functions of their operations enable their teams to dynamically execute the goal of managing by exception/identifying critical risks “real-time” . If this remains a roadblock within your process

Fun Facts

The “Amazon Effect” on Supply Chains: The rise of e-commerce giants like Amazon has significantly reshaped the supply chain landscape. The term “Amazon Effect” refers to the impact of e-commerce on traditional retail and logistics practices. One fascinating aspect of this effect is the emphasis on speed and convenience in delivery. As a result, supply chain operations have had to evolve to meet the growing demand for same-day or next-day delivery services, leading to innovations such as fulfillment centres strategically located near urban centres and the use of advanced automation and robotics to optimize efficiency. The Amazon Effect has not only transformed consumer expectations but has also spurred innovation and competition across the entire supply chain industry. 🏭 🚚 🗂 ✅ 📦 🏬 🛒 🚢
